SKU (Stock Keeping Unit)
A Stock Keeping Unit (SKU) is a unique alphanumeric code assigned to a specific product in inventory. Each SKU reflects attributes such as size, color, packaging or brand, allowing businesses to distinguish one item from another.
For example: a red T-shirt in size medium has a different SKU than the same T-shirt in blue or in another size.
Why it matters
SKUs are essential for:
Tracking stock levels accurately.
Managing warehouse operations and order fulfillment.
Reducing picking and delivery errors.
Meeting customer demand quickly and efficiently.
In supply chains, SKUs make inventory control more precise and fulfillment processes more reliable, directly supporting efficiency and customer satisfaction.
How Connected Load Carrier supports SKU management
While SKUs manage product-level identification, Connected Load Carrier complements this with real-time visibility of the assets (such as pallets, roll cages and containers) that carry these products. Together, SKU-level data and asset-level tracking create a complete picture of stock movements and availability, enabling smarter stock management and reducing inefficiencies.
